Seeing designers’ visions come to life is so inspiring, and this spring/summer 14 season was no different. As always, there were some noticeable trends that emerged throughout the different shows, and here are some of my favorites, including some links to older posts showcasing ways I’ve incorporated these looks.
Trend 1: Midrift and Leg
Showing stomach and leg are very in for SS14. To keep the look from being too revealing, pick only one body part to showcase at once.

Trend 2: Lilac
This season there were a plethora of Barbie-esque hues to choose from, but I really felt the lilac. From Wes Gordan’s romantic light lace to Prabral Gurung’s sateen sheen structured dress, the violet tone was given a serious facelift.
Clearly, the decade that shined brightest on the runways was the ’90s (see Alexander Wang and Rag & Bone to name a few). But the era I noticed in a more subdued way, felt very ’70s-chic. I was drawn to the center parts, platform shoes, and voluminous pants that were in heavy rotation.

Trend 4: Florals
I’m an easy sell when it comes to florals and this spring, they have staying power. The patterns have more dimension and strength than the romantic florals we’ve seen in previous seasons. I loved the architectural silhouette pieces paired with blossoming textiles for a completely modern look (see Thakoon’s dress above).

Trend 5: New Take on the White Shirt
A classic, crisp white shirt is nothing out of the ordinary. This season there’s a new take however, which almost every designer brought to the table. From sheer paneling to billowing sleeves, these shirts are anything but boring yet still maintain the white shirt motto of complete versatility.

Trend 6: Draped and Layered
Casual ease is actually planned out: the more layers the better. In particular, I loved Theyskens’ Theory extreme take on this where you could see about five pieces all hitting the body at different points (especially the cropped bustier top over a tee), without looking bulky or contrived.

There were too many innovative beauty trends to count this season, but here are some of my personal favorite moments:
1. Zac Posen’s magical floral hair details (image via vogue.com)
2. Pastel pink and orange lips at Prabal Gurung (images via vogue.com)
3. Azure lids at Marc by Marc Jacobs (image via vogue.com)
4. Volumized hair with a sleek top at Jenny Packham (image via style.com)
5. Glittery gold shadow at Jason Wu (image via vogue.com)
Fall is almost here & we paired up with SilverFever.com & went to scope out the latest trends on the runway. We also spent time visiting stores all over the upper east side, from Fifth to Park to Madison Avenues, to stare at the fall 2012 fashion. We popped into three favorites for designer labels: Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales, and Barneys where price tags go up into the thousands, but just like always, we at FamousFashionista & SilverFever provide the same looks on a more affordable budget.
Electric Blue. Wow this color was in 80% of the stores, I couldn’t believe how much of electric blue (or royal blue) was on display in both men’s and women’s fashion, and it was mostly paired with black. It’s a saturated or vivid version of cobalt and it’severywhere. isplThe best way to try a trend is thru accessories. We have an awesome electic blue handbag or a scarf that can update your warddrobe in no time.
Leopard – This pattern was on handbags, blouses, skirts, jackets, shoes, belts, everything. I spied it from DKNY to Dolce & Gabbana to Christian Louboutin, reowr, leopard is mega hot this season. Go bold with a dress, or incorporate this trend with accessories, like a bag or a scarf.
Color Block – This trend has been hot all year and is still going strong, I saw a lot of color blocked dresses, tops, shoes and bags, done either either tone-on-tone or with neighboring colors on the color wheel (pink/orange and blue/green) – even the First Lady is a fan of this trend.
Studs & Chains – Many of fall’s accessories this season have some form of chain link or studs incorporated into the design, the Valentino and Prada bags were mega cool. I saw a lot of Chanel inspired chain too, with the leather or fabric woven through the links. Silver Fever has many options for this trend, from cool wallets, bracelets, handbags & clutches, we got you covered.
Seventies fashion remains high on the list of carry-over trends, taking with it the likes of flares and wide-leg pants; while on the softer side, Pleats and Polka dots are sprinkled through to the new season collections. My favorite of the upcoming fashion trends is fur clothing, must be the Russian in me. 🙂
Fur clothing – t’s a fabric that divides people through its controversy, and one that has been a small part of autumn / fall / winter collections in recent years. During autumn (fall) / winter 2011 it all changes and fur clothing plays a large role in many of the collections from the world’s biggest fashion houses.
Polka Dots – If Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg put the same print out on the runway, then you know it’s a real trend, with a capital T. If the head-to-toe patterned look isn’t your thing, try a polka-dot blouse or scarf to put a playful—and trendy!—spin on your everyday outfit.
Women’s Toxedo – The women’s tuxedo trend trumpet last blew out in 2008 when we saw a fountain of celebrities donning the look. Now, with 2012 on the horizon, we’re seeing the trend make a flashing comeback with a whole lot of mischief, seduction and femininity.
Remember how fun the 80’s were? Lots of neon colors, cool prints, off the shoulder t-shirts & scrunchies? Well…maybe we can leave out the scrunchies, but I think 80’s are slowly creeping back. I have been seeing so many awesome fun summer pieces that can make any outfit shine.
Check out my faves for the perfect 80’s inpired outfits.
Today we went to Downtown to find our next place to live. It was gloomy the entire time but thankfully the views from the 13th floor of my favorite place were still amazing. Inspired by the gray colors, I threw together an outfit using old favorites mixed with new staples (my spring-striped maxi dress); perfect for Spring Saturdays.
I recently came across this amazing blog & was immediately inspired by the outfits that Liz wears. Spring is in full force and I am always looking for stylespirations. The maxi skirt is the perfect item for Spring & has been a hot item for the past few year. Beautiful layers of sheer fabrics, shades of white, Moroccan inspired, and abstract geometric prints have given these new versions a modern update. The 70s silhouette is the perfect lightweight attire for the warmer seasons and will keep your looking chic and cool as you brave the heat.
For this weekend, I thought I would give you guys some outfit ideas. Everyone owns some black skinny jeans or pants. Just pair with a cute top & white jacket and you are ready for your first martini. If you look in your closet you can definitely find a little cute dress that hasn’t been worn in a while. The best way to spice up an outfit is with a new belt and once again the key is heels. I had to put the little black dress as the ultimate Friday night outfit as well. This style, never goes out of style because there are so many choices.
Everyone owns a pair of cute jean short, you can pair them with a stripe tee & a little jacket and you are ready for brunch. Wear a little comfortable dress with some flats and let the shopping begin. I think shopping definitely has to be done in style but you have to be comfortable as well, so you can last while going through the sale racks.
I think a perfect outfit for a warm saturday night is a short little dress with some strappy sandles. A Kimono style dress is so adorable and animal print is always a classic. Bright colors stand out when you are at the club, so pick something that will catch the eye .
